Decoding Rational Service Error Codes
Your Rational combi oven flashes a Service code, and the kitchen is depending on you to get it back online fast. Most Rational error codes point to a specific component that needs replacement or service. Here is what each common code means and the OEM Rational part that resolves it.
Service 10, 11, 12 — Steam Generator Issues
These codes indicate the steam generator is not behaving correctly. Causes range from heavy scale buildup (Service 12) to a failed heating element (Service 10) or sensor mismatch (Service 11).
What to do: Run a full descale cycle first with genuine Rational Active Cleaner. If the code returns, replace the heating element or the steam generator probe assembly. We stock the descaler chemicals and the OEM probes.
Service 23 — Core Temperature Probe
The most common Rational service code. The core probe (the temperature probe you stick into the food) is broken, miswired, or has been mechanically damaged.
What to do: Inspect the probe cable for kinks or melted insulation. Replace the probe — it is a straightforward part swap and we stock OEM cores for every iCombi and SCC generation.
Service 32 — Self-Cleaning Failure
Self-cleaning aborted or could not complete. Usually water inlet pressure too low, drain blockage, or cleaner cartridge sensor fault.
What to do: Check inlet water pressure (Rational requires 2.5 to 6 bar). Clear the drain. Verify the cleaner cartridge is fully inserted. If error persists, replace the cleaner sensor.
Service 4 — Door Switch
Door contact switch failure. The 1400937P Door Contact Switch Bracket is the most common replacement we sell for this code.
What to do: Open and close the door slowly while watching the switch. If it does not click cleanly or the bracket is bent, replace the bracket assembly.
Service 80 — Electronics
Generic control board or communication fault. Often caused by power surges, water ingress, or simply age.
What to do: Power cycle first. If the code persists, the control board likely needs replacement. We can identify the right board from your unit serial number.
