Hobart Commercial Mixer Troubleshooting Guide

Hobart Legacy and current generation mixers are workhorses, but every mixer eventually develops symptoms that need diagnosis. Here is how to identify the failure and the OEM Hobart part that fixes it.

Mixer Has No Power

Check the power cord, breaker, and on/off switch. If those are good, the motor capacitor or starter relay has likely failed. We carry OEM Hobart capacitors and relays.

Mixer Runs but Bowl Lift Stuck

The bowl lift drive belt or gearbox has worn. On hand-lift models (N50, A200), the lift mechanism may need rebuilding. We stock complete lift assemblies and rebuild kits for every Hobart mixer generation.

Mixer Slows Under Load

Symptom of a worn transmission or weak motor. Check oil level in the planetary head first. If oil is good, the transmission gears or planetary drive is worn. Transmission rebuild kits are available.

Mixer Speed Shift Stuck or Grinding

The speed shifter is worn or the transmission is low on oil. On Legacy units, this is a common service item. Replace the shifter with the OEM part.

Excessive Vibration or Noise

Bearing failure in the planetary or motor end. Listen carefully — top-end whine is usually planetary, bottom-end rumble is motor bearings. Either is a stocked rebuild.

Bowl Wobble or Misalignment

Bowl saddle pins worn or planetary shaft loose. Inspect pins; if worn replace as a set.
