Manitowoc Ice Machine Diagnostic Steps
When a Manitowoc ice machine stops producing, there are seven common causes. Work through them in order.
1. Water Supply and Pressure
Manitowoc requires 20 to 80 psi water pressure. Verify supply valve is open and pressure is adequate.
2. Water Filter
Clogged filter restricts flow. Replace cartridge if older than 6 months in hard water markets.
3. Condenser Coil
Dirty condenser causes high head pressure and shutdown. Clean monthly in commercial settings.
4. Ambient Temperature
Manitowoc air-cooled units need ambient below 90F to produce ice. Outdoor or hot kitchen installations fail in summer.
5. Bin Thermostat or Float Switch
If the unit thinks bin is full, it shuts off. Check the float or bin sensor.
6. Refrigerant Leak
Sudden capacity drop. Requires HVAC technician with EPA certification. We sell OEM service parts but the diagnosis requires gauges.
7. Control Board
If all of the above checks out, the control board may have failed. We can identify the OEM board by serial number.
