True Commercial Freezer Diagnosis
True freezers are reliable but eventually need service. Here is how to diagnose a True freezer that won't hold temperature.
1. Door Seal
Check for cracked or compressed gasket. Bad seal = warm air in, frost buildup, and a freezer that runs constantly.
2. Condenser Coil Cleanliness
Dirty condenser causes high head pressure and reduced cooling. Clean monthly.
3. Condenser Fan Motor
If the fan isn't spinning, condenser cannot reject heat. Listen and look. Replace fan motor if seized.
4. Evaporator Fan Motor
If evap fan stopped, air can't circulate inside the freezer. Open door — if motor is silent, replace.
5. Defrost Timer or Defrost Heater
Frost buildup on the evap coil means defrost isn't running. Test the defrost timer and the heater element.
6. Compressor
If compressor is hot and not running, the start relay or overload protector likely failed (cheap fix). If compressor runs but doesn't cool, the system may be low on refrigerant — call a qualified HVAC tech.
