Pitco Fryer Pilot Light Troubleshooting

If your Pitco gas fryer pilot light won't stay lit, the issue is almost always one of three things.

1. Failed Thermocouple (most common)

The thermocouple senses the pilot flame and tells the gas valve to stay open. When it fails, the gas valve closes and the pilot goes out. Symptoms: pilot lights but goes out as soon as you release the gas valve button.

Fix: Replace the thermocouple. Stocked for all Pitco models. 15-minute job.

2. Clogged Pilot Orifice

If pilot flame is weak or yellow, the orifice is clogged with grease or carbon. Clean with compressed air or replace the pilot assembly.

3. Failed Gas Safety Valve

If the thermocouple tests good and the pilot orifice is clean, the gas safety valve itself has failed. More expensive part but OEM replacements are stocked.

4. Drafts in the Kitchen

Strong air movement (open back door, kitchen exhaust hood on high) can blow out a pilot. Verify ambient air movement is not the cause before replacing parts.
